Peer Advisory Groups
Personally it has made me much more accountable and proud of what I am doing and forcing me to think about each step rather than sub-consciously have it happen to or around me by accident. Professionally I love the people I have met, learnt and respected their businesses and overall become a better business owner and consumer of other small business. Having a team of people interested in your goals and achievements certainly makes you want to have new things to report at each meeting! I feel like I need to be out there doing things even more now as I don't want to let the daisies down. I love this motivation! - Jenny Tiffen, Fitmums I loved the informal atmosphere of the group. It is safe and there is a sense of trust amongst everyone. Professionally it's great to see and hear what others are doing in their world of business which makes you think laterally about where I am at in my business world. - Juliette Spurrett, Parer Photography Professionally I have been able to continue to work on my brand and grow my customer base by implementing many of the themes and ideas that my peers have contributed. Personally, I have met some wonderful like-minded women of which I would have not had the chance to meet if it wasn't for D&D - Justine Lockwood, Personal Property Services.WorkshopsI found the peer-based learning was fabulous. It was great to hear how other stall holders did things, and Candice facilitated these discussions really well. I would highly recommend the workshops to any market stall holders. I wish I could have done them all, but had to pick and choose due to family committments - Michelle Williams, www.poppybeanandbloss.com.auEverything! Totally worthwhile. Really well-run I loved that the notes were emailed to us so we could listen without writing all the time. Candice was very supportive and got us to think through our problems and come up with our own solutions. Empowering. - Jen Leheny www.jenleheny.com, www.redinstead.com.au Everything! I learnt so many things during this workshop. Every Wednesday I'd be eagerly anticipating what the evening's workshop would bring. Always I leave buzzing with new ideas - cost effective and practical to apply to my small business. From the very first night I got some great ideas. The workshops gave me the ideas, motivation and incentive to get lots of things done. In six weeks I organised a banner, business cards, a stand to hang my art and a new website. I thoroughly recommend them - Rebecca Vavic, www.rebeccavavic.com Meeting other stallholders was a definite plus. Feedback from peers was helpful - Melanie Swan www.melanieswandesigns.com Relaxed. It helps you get your head in focus as to what you are doing in terms of your business. Especially as a 'market person' I find we have a tendency to fall from one market into another. This enabled me to believe in myself more as a business and think more as a future and worth planning ahead. I really liked the format, the interaction, sharing of ideas and feedback - Vivienne Seedsman, www.bluemallee.com.au Business Mums PlaygroupsBeing a part of the Daisy and Dandelion Business Mums playgroup changed my business and life. The playgroup has given me an outlet to try some new things with a group of like minded entrepreneurial mums. Around the same time I got involved in playgroup my business took off and is just getting better and better. I have mentors and an outlet to come and talk about what has happened to me in my week both personal and business wise. I get to give and receive free advice and my son has made some new friends. It was the best business decision I have ever made to join the Daisy and Dandelion Business Mums playgroup. The reason it worked for me is I got involved and it has given back threefold. I have a million and one thanks for all the Mum's in business who attend this playgroup, it has changed my life. I was on my second batch of maternity leave when I decided to start my own photography business - Parer Photography. I cannot stress how supportive, informative, creative and friendly this group of women are!!! I literally started my business from scratch and by attending this playgroup my business ideas and confidence grew beyond my expectations.
Running a business from can be great, but can also mean not getting out of the house much. I really enjoyed going to the business playgroup as it gave me the opportunity to get out of the house, relax with like-minded people , burn the kids out so I could get them home to bed and get some work done. It also gave me the opportunity to network and build my portfolio when I was just starting out. I recommend it to anyone.
Playgroup has been a great resource for me and my children. Being a mum who works from home has its own set of challenges. It is wonderful to share ideas on how to manage the stack of dirty dishes and still get my paid work accomplished. Since I don't have someone to talk to at lunch break or over a cup of coffee playgroup gives me the adult interaction that helps with idea generation and being able to vent over a particularly bad week. Renee
I had only lived in the ACT for a short time when my first child was born and not having any family or made any friends, I joined a playgroup. The playgroup that I joined gave me the opportunity to meet other mums and my son could play and learn with other children. We have made some great friends that my kids and I still spend time with now, 7 years later. Playgroup time was my time, where I enjoyed a cup of tea and shared my experiences as a mum, whilst the kids played with their friends. Birgit |
